Brown – Skin backlash not American – The happenings of September 11 are incomprehensible and yet so humongous and inhuman. They are a challenge to the bare existence
The happenings of September 11 are incomprehensible and yet so humongous and inhuman. They are a challenge to the bare existence of human beings and there is no doubt left in our minds that humanity itself has been challenged by these cruel, barbarous and evil forces across the globe. India has been dealing with this problem for over two decades and as an involved Indian-American I understand not only terrorism but also the psyche of the terrorist. In terms of U.S. State Department statistics, the largest terrorist operation in the world is being conducted in India, and sponsored by its neighbors Pakistan and Afghanistan. Evidence continues to mount that these crimes against humanity were led by Osama bin Laden. In an international symposium on Kashmir on June 9th in Fremont, one of the many think tanks present was director of the U.S. Congressional Task Force on Terrorism, Yossef Bodansky who provided explicit detail of bin Laden’s link to global terrorism. A recent book titled Bin Laden: The Man Who Declared War on America authored by him provides detail of the link to global terrorism. It is time America gets to the root of terrorism which has plagued the whole civilized world. It is also very important for Americans to keep calm and go around their business as usual. That is the only way to cow down the enemy. It should be remembered that the planes hijacked and destroyed carried Americans from different countries who have been living in this country now for many years and are serving this country like anyone else. There should be no irrational acts of violence against those who resemble the terrorist. An Indo-American Sikh has been killed because he looked like the terrorist. It is a highly deplorable act and is condemned in very strong words. The perpetrator has come down to the level of these evil forces and that helps make the enemies of this great country successful in their sinister designs. Let the democratic societies of India and the U.S. join together to fight the evil of terrorism at its very root and ensure that the fundamental rights of all human beings – freedom, life and liberty – can be pursued in peace. Indo-American Community Federation and all Indian American organizations of Bay Area are joining together to show solidarity and to voice ourselves against these inhuman and vicious acts of cowardice and suffering on September 23, 2001 at 5 P.M to 7:00 P.M in front of Fairmont hotel, San Jose.
