Capacity Crowd Celebrates Community Service at Unity Dinner 2006

Under the theme of a celebration of community service, the Indo-American Community Federation’s “Unity Dinner 2006” united various ethnic communities in California, at a sold out gathering at the Newark-Fremont Hilton Hotel March 24.Scores of public officials attended, including Congressman Mike Honda, California Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi, State Assembly members Alberto Torrico and Johan Klehs, and Alameda county supervisors, Mayors, Council members and elected and appointed board members.

Senators praise role of Pandits in the U.S – A report by India Abroad dated July 3, 1998

Reflecting the growing recognition in Washington of the plight of Kashmiris Pandits influential democrat from Ohio and members of the India Caucus Sherrod Brown urged Home Minister L.K.Advani to consult the Kashmir Task Force (KTF) while resolving the “unfortunate situation”. In a letter to Advani last week, Brown noted the deteriorating condition of the Pandits, their forced exodus by terrorists trained outside India’s borders and decried the harsh living conditions in the make-shift camps set up for them.

FREMONT — It’s a party of sorts and it’s celebrating the city of Fremont. “This community really is amazing,” said Unity Dinner 2002 organizer Jeevan Zutshi. “There has been no backlash whatsoever since Sept. 11 and I am proud of that. So we are celebrating the togetherness that this diverse community has demonstrated.” On Friday, Zutshi and his organization, the Indo-American Community Federation, are honoring the city of Fremont for that accomplishment.Unity Dinner 2002 is an evening of gourmet food, music and conversation celebrating the “tolerance, mutual respect and understanding” that is shown in Fremont among all communities, Zutshi said.

As the name suggests, “Unity Dinner 2005” organized by the Indo-American Community Federation was all about bringing various ethnic communities in the San Francisco Bay Area together for one night to celebrate the amalgamation of diverse cultures that has become a unique symbol of this region. The sell-out event was held at the Newark-Fremont Hilton Jan 21, and is the fourth annual dinner organized by the IACF. As the night began, members from the Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Chinese, Filipino and Caucasian communities intermingled and sat together at tables exchanging views and ideas with close to 70 public officials also present at the occasion.
