‘Unity Dinner 2006’ – a Sellout Event : Mar 24, 2006

Members from the Indian, Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, and Caucasian communities exchanged views and ideas at the fifth annual ‘Unity Dinner’ hosted on March 24 by the Indo-American Community Federation at the Newark-Fremont Hilton in Fremont, CA. United States Representative Mike Honda, California Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi, Assembly Members Alberto Torrico and Johan Klehs, County Supervisors, Mayors, and City Managers of Fremont, Newark, Union City, and Hayward were among the clost 80 public officials at the event.

Under the theme of a celebration of community service, the Indo-American Community Federation’s “Unity Dinner 2006” united various ethnic communities in California, at a sold out gathering at the Newark-Fremont Hilton Hotel March 24.Scores of public officials attended, including Congressman Mike Honda, California Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi, State Assembly members Alberto Torrico and Johan Klehs, and Alameda county supervisors, Mayors, Council members and elected and appointed board members.

The fifth annual Unity Dinner — an event that celebrates the city of Fremont’s diversity — is being hosted March 24 at the Newark-Fremont Hilton, sponsored by the Indo-American Community Federation . Fremont community activist Jeevan Zutshi is the organizer. He moved to the United States from Kashmir 33 years ago and hosts the dinner as a way to bring people of different faiths and cultures together. This year, Zutshi’s theme of “unity” will coincide with Fremont’s 50th anniversary. FREMONT, Calif. – State Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi told a gathering of Indian Americans here that he will take their advice on matters relating to their community should he become lieutenant governor. For this, he said, he will set up an Indian American Advisory Committee, with people “drawn from a broad spectrum” of the community serving on it. “That title of lieutenant governor has the best sound system in the state,” the veteran politician told those who attended a dinner reception hosted for him by community activist Jeevan Zutshi, and his wife, Usha, in their hillside home.

India Community Center : Dec 12, 2003

I wish to introduce you to the largest India Community Center in the country located in our own backyard here. The Center is the brain child of Godhwani brothers and the vision is to have a similar center in all major parts of North America. The Center is non-religious and non-political for the entire Indian Community. With 2500 members already in place within an effort of less than 8 months, I have no doubt about ICC being The Center for Indians in North America. There is something for everyone every day!

Pallone Hosts Hearing on Plight of Kashmiri Pandits: Nov 14, 2003

Congressman Frank Pallone recently hosted a hearing on Capitol Hill to apprise Congressional aides about the lot of Kashmiri Pandits. Despite his unstinting support for India on Capitol Hill, the New Jersey Democrat and founder and former co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans has never shied away from faulting New Delhi for its apathy towards Pandits who fled the Kashmir valley following terrorist violence in Jammu and Kashmir.
